A little Recycling

Project Outline:

  • To establish a local recycling center in Taplejung Nepal.
  • educate about the importance of environmental protection for the safe guard of tourism and the sustainability of humanity
  • establish a network of handmade signs (Children in school) and rubbish bins (local basket manufacturer) across the region
  • create an incentive program for the collection of rubbish from various sites to main center in Taplejung
  • Incentives would be school materials for children and medical supplies for adults.
  • Form business links with recycling companies in India and Nepal to collect materials.
  • Establish a communal composting system for organic waste
  • Collect materials that can be turned into Bio-fuel (reduce deforestation, cheap fuel for the poor)

First off i would like to describe a little bit about the inspiration for this project, so bear with me!

Myself and a friend were commissioned to over see the building of a free school, pro-dominantly for the lower caste and orphans, In a region of Nepal called Taplejung. Whilst I was teaching over a 6 month period i had the privilidge to scout around the landscape and take in some of Nepals outstanding natural and cultural beauty.

However there is a dark side to this ‘get-away’ bliss for westerners: a need for better and more widespread education and hospitals and anything from medical supplies, medicine undergraduates, books, teachers can make a massive difference to these peoples lives. If you have any of these abilities and would like to volunteer in this area of Nepal please contact mere here.

Back to the point.

Trying to avoid any more digressions…I felt that one problem that is not being taken into account by any NGO or governmental organisation in the area is: waste and recycling.
